Allow for flight times, winding roads, daylight, hike starts, and surf conditions. El Salvador is compact, but changing hotels every day still gets tiring.
Short trip
Pick one coast and one inland focus
With three to five days, choose either Surf City plus Santa Ana/Coatepeque or San Salvador plus Suchitoto/Ruta de las Flores. Do not try to touch every region.
One week
Use two or three bases
A week can handle San Salvador logistics, the La Libertad coast and the western highlands. Add archaeology or Suchitoto where it fits naturally.
Ten days
Add the east or deeper culture
Ten days gives room for the Gulf of Fonseca, El Cuco/Las Flores, more towns, or a slower archaeology and coffee loop without rushing every stop.
